terrible, terrible turns of phrase

Taken from a Netflix description:

"But when skeletons in his closet keep raising their ugly heads and threaten to bring about his ruin..."

How do they raise their heads? They're skeletons! They have no muscle structure! Also, technically they don't have heads, but only skulls! Stop torturing me, Netflix blurb-writer!
